A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a tax-advantaged account created for or by individuals covered under high-deductible health plans (HDHPs) to save for qualified medical expenses. The contributions to an HSA can be invested over time and can be used to pay for qualified medical expenses, such as ketamine therapy, other medical expenses, dental, vision care and prescription drugs.
An FSA is an employer-sponsored healthcare benefit that allows employees to set aside up to $3,200 (2024) annually to cover the cost of qualified medical expenses such as ketamine therapy. It’s a lot like a savings account but used for qualified health-related costs. FSAs work on an annual plan year basis and are funded through regular payroll deductions on a pre-tax basis.
These funds are subject to a use-it-or-lose-it rule, which means that any funds that are unspent by the end of each plan year are forfeited to the account holder’s employer.
